“Alexandru Vlahuţă” Memorial House from the Agapia village entered the tourist circuit in 1963. Built in 1885, the house where the Romanian writer Alexandru Vlahuţă lived is situated nearby the Agapia Monastery.

Thanks to its picturesque position, at the mountain feet, and its folk architecture specific to the area that complete its importance as a museum, the memorial house represents an important tourist and cultural location.

The writer Alexandru Vlahuţă often came to this house during summertime to rest and to write. Maybe here he was inspired to write the famous book România Pitorească (1901), and especially the story În munţii Neamţului where he accurately describes the citadel of Neamţ. Thanks to the consolidation and restoration works made by the Mitropoly of Moldavia and Bucovina, you can currently enjoy the house where the writer Alexandru Vlahuţă lived.

Starting from the initial heritage form 1963, when the memorial house was inaugurated, the visitor can now discover expositions comprising of original furniture and personal items of the Vlahuţă family, and also photos, letters and books revealing significant aspects of the life and creation of the famous writer.

In the spacious threshold took place real literary circles that friends of the writer attended: Barbu Delavrancea, I. L. Caragiale, N. Grigorescu, Paul Bujor, Al. Philippide, Radu Rosetti and others. Here it was also decided the marriage of his daughter, Margareta with the nephew of the writer Barbu Delavrancea, the later on Byzantine researcher, professor I.D. Ştefănescu. His second daughter, Ana, married the son of the great Romanian painter N. Grigorescu, Gheorghe N. Grigorescu.

The tradition of the literary circles was kept, and nowadays are an occasion of communion and communication on various themes on a cultural point of view. From literature to religion, from philosophy to visual arts, the themes are signs that museums, as well as the church, represent a living space of human action and relation bonding.
