“[…] If through the copper woods you pass, the silver woods shine far away,/ There you will hear a thousand throats proclaim the forest’s roundelay.” (Mihai Eminescu, Călin – Pages from a tale).

Being known from Eminescu’s lines, the “Silver Woods” forest reservation lies on the territory of the commune of Agapia, near the headquarters of Văratec Forestry, on the lower terrace of Topoliţa brook. The forest covers a surface of over two hectares and lies at a height of 540 metres.

Most of the reservation includes birches which are more than one century old, but there are also younger trees which are 20 and up to 50 years old.

If you get there and visit it at the beginning of summer, on 15th June, do not miss the peasant festival “The Silver woods”.

The festival is a popular one, having a folkloric character and its first edition took place in 1977. Unique photos can be taken during autumn and winter when the birches in the forest take on the colour described with such artistry by Mihai Eminescu in the poem Călin (Pages from a tale).
