Saint George Church

1800-1808

1800-1808

The Church was built between 1800-1808 due to the donations of the merchants in Brașoveanu family from Tîrgu Neamț.

The church has the shape of a vessel, in trefoiled byzantine style, with the tower in the middle and with fortress-like thick walls, being built within the period when the religious constructions had to take the role of the former fortresses for the defence of the inhabitants.

The interior painting was achieved in 1822, only at the expense of the precentor John. The iconostasis was carved in linden and is glazed in gold. Along with the fire in 1864, when all this part of the city was burnt, the roof of the church was burnt. The repair workings lasted almost three years.
